Karachi, 2nd February 2017, The Department of Science of Dental Materials, BUMDC organized a scientific session on ‘Tooth adhesion system, scientific writing and Periodontal regeneration’. The guest speakers invited for the session were Dr. Umer Daood, currently associated with International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a PhD scholar at University of Hong Kong and Dr. Saad Bin Qasim, PhD in Dental Material Science from the University Of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
Dr. Saad, in his talk discussed about the regenerative capability of periodontal tissues and the scope of dental tissue engineering which can lead to repair of damaged and diseased dental tissues. Speaker briefed the audience about the role of Pakistani scientist that have improved over the period of time in the fields of medicine and dentistry and emphasized the fact that this era is for the young people to step into stem cell engineering which has much potential in dental tissue regeneration.
Dr. Umer delivered a talk on tooth adhesion system. He discussed the adhesion types and available materials in the market. Dr. Umer interacted with the audience about the clinical applications of tooth adhesive materials and briefly discussed about the protocols for scientific paper writing and shared his recent work about the dentin bonding agent which he performed at HKU. He encouraged young students to step in to research with a multidisciplinary approach.
The program came to an end with a note of thanks from Dr. Syed Ahmed Omer, Head Department of Science of Dental Materials and Prof. Dr. Zubair Ahmed Abbasi, Principal Dental Section, BUMDC and a short Q & A session with the speakers. Honorable guest speakers, Dr. Umer Daood and Dr. Saad Bin Qasim were awarded shields from Chief guest, Vice Admiral (Retd) Tehseen Ullah Khan HI (M), Director General BUMDC.
Guest speakers visited the college and showed much interest about the potential of research which can be carried out in “Multidisciplinary lab” at BUMDC.
The department appreciated Dr. M. Arqam Najmi for his outstanding contributions in making this program a success.
