The Department of Community Dentistry, Bahria University Medical & Dental College, Karachi, carried out an outreach program on “Oral Health Awareness among Nursing Students”for the undergraduate students at PNS Nursing School on 19th November ’2015.The session was headed by Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi HOD assisted by Dr. Raima Bashir and Dr. Anum Sami.
Nurses are an integral part of our society. They can play a significant role in improving the quality of oral health with appropriate education and training. The aim of this community support program was to educate the nurses in order to improve their competencies for health promotion.
The session proceeded with an interactive lecture delivered by Dr. Kulsoom Fatima to the nursing students about the importance of oral health with a brief discussion on associated common diseases prevalent in our society. She emphasized on prevention of oral diseases in relation to the role of nursesin health promotion.Moreover the need for awareness of risk factors associated with poor oral hygiene, and ability to assess and help patients in maintaining good health.
The session concluded with the distribution of Oral health education materials and Oral Hygiene Kits sponsored by Colgate as their continuous effort of promoting beautiful smiles.
