The Departments of Medicine and Medical Education BUMDC conducted 2-hour CME Lectures on “Diabetes Mellitus” on 17th April 2017 in Ibn-e-Sina Auditorium BUMDC. Students of Final Year MBBS, 3rd Year MBBS, 3rd Year BDS and faculty members from medical and dental section participated in the session. The CME focussed on elaborating the understanding of Diabetes Mellitus in terms of its prevention, diagnosis, complications and its management . Renowned Endocrinologists and Consultants from various teaching hospitals and medical colleges in Karachi were invited as Guest Speakers for sharing valuable information. Principal and Dean BUMDC, Prof. Dr Asadullah Khan inaugurated the session by delivering the welcome address. The session commenced with Prof. Dr. Sajid Abbas Jaffri`s talk on Overview of Diabetes Mellitus where he highlighted the pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of Diabetes Mellitus. Dr. Tariq Mehmood Bangash, Head of Department of Medicine, PNS SHIFA Hospital spoke about different types of Insulin Therapy in Type II Diabetes Mellitus. Prof. Brig (Retd.) Shaheen Moin, Consultant Nephrologist and Ex. Principal BUMDC highlighted the pathogenesis and prevention of Diabetic Nephopathy. The session gained momentum with Dr. Musarrat Riaz`s presentation on Diabetic Foot where she highlighted various types of ulcers, their management and treatment. Dr. Ali Asghar, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, Liaquat National Medical College & Hospital, spoke about management of Type II Diabetes Mellitus very comprehensively. The session was concluded by Professor Dr. Saeed. A. Mahar, Department of Medicine, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, President Pakistan Society of Endocrinology. He laid emphasis on early detection, prevention and management of Diabetes Mellitus. Prof. Dr. Ambreen Usmani, Vice Principal (Medical Section), Professor & Head, Department of Anatomy had the honor of delivering vote of thanks. Honorable Director General Vice Admiral (Retd.) Tahseenullah Khan HI (M) distributed shields among the guest speakers.
