The Department of Medical Education BUMDC conducted an exclusive guest lecture on “Awareness on Harmful Effects of Smoking & Tobacco Related Products” in collaboration with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre(SKMCH & RC), on 4th April 2017 in Lecture Hall C (3rd Floor). Students of second year MBBS participated in the session. Pamphlets of “Anti-Tobacco Awareness were distributed to students by the Shaukat Khanum team. Dr.Kashifa Ehsan, a representative of SKMCH & RC, spoke about the increasing risk of different types of cancers associated with smoking. She stated that nearly 90,000 people die from tobacco related cases annually in Pakistan and that today; tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of cancer. She also elaborated different types of strategies to raise awareness about quitting smoking in rural and urban areas. Other team members of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital included Ms. Urooj Anjum, Mr. Arsalan Kaim Khani and Mr. Umer Shoeb. The session ended with concluding remarks by honourable Prof. Dr.Asadullah Khan, Principal and Dean Faculty of Health Sciences, BUMDC. A momento was also presented to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre Team by honourable Principal and Dean, Prof. Dr. Asadullah Khan.
