SPECIALIZED POSTGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAM IN LAB SCIENCES
MISSION OF MS MEDICAL LAB SCIENCES (MS-MLS) PROGRAM
The mission of MS program in Medical Laboratory science is to prepare skillful postgraduate lab professionals with advanced scientific knowledge and expertise to deliver quality health care services in the field of laboratory sciences.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION IN MS IN MEDICAL LAB SCIENCE (MS-MLS)
Minimum 16 years of education with BS in Medical Lab Technology/Clinical Lab Science/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/Pathology or MSc or equivalent degree from an HEC recognized university in the relevant discipline/field of study with a minimum CGPA 2.5/4.0 or 50% marks where CGPA is not given.
ADMISSION CRITERIA:
For Allied Health Sciences
All candidates seeking admission are required to appear in entrance test which will be conducted by Bahria University on particular time and date with 50 % passing marks in a BU test
RATIONALE FOR THE MS MEDICAL LAB SCIENCE (MS-MLS) PROGRAMME:
Medical laboratory professionals are the vital members of the health care team. Doctors make many of their decisions about diagnosis and treatment of disease based on laboratory test results and about 70 percent of treatment decisions are based on these results.

- This program will help to meet the BUHSC-PGI vision 2030 to start postgraduate education in allied health sciences in Spring 2025.
- This program will facilitate to fulfil the indispensable need of specialized postgraduate education in the field of medical lab sciences due to lack or less opportunities nationwide.
- This program will provide excellent opportunity to laboratory technologists already working in clinical labs and hospitals to establish their career as senior medical lab technologist and can earn a decent salary.
- This program will provide a career path to the Medical lab technology students and lab workers with advanced research opportunities as scientists, which can boost their professional career and enhances the promotion chances upto senior and supervisor level.
- This program will also enable the allied health science department to fully utilize its preexisting laboratory resources and PhD qualified faculty for future growth of allied health sciences
- This programme will develop specialized medical lab postgraduates for provision of quality health care in the province and country
OBJECTIVES OF MS IN MEDICAL LAB SCIENCES (MS-MLS) PROGRAM
MS MLS Degree program is designed to:
Provide opportunity of postgraduate education to the bachelors of lab sciences

- Provide a status of recognition in the health care delivery system through capacity building
- Prepare a team of postgraduate clinical laboratory professionals who can effectively assist senior health professionals in the delivery of quality health services.
- Prepare medical laboratory experts with the advanced knowledge and abilities needed for certification by nationally recognized professional agencies at par with international standards.
- Interpret and evaluate patient results and suggest or select appropriate additional testing.
- Design, implement and evaluate resource management strategies to maintain optimal laboratory efficiency
- Use educational methods to present information and develop instructional materials.
- Use research methods to design, conduct and disseminate results of studies on new technologies, procedures or diagnostic correlations in molecular science
OUTCOMES OF THE PROGRAMME:
At the end of the program medical lab professionals will be able to

- Apply the expertise in performing, analyzing and reporting the full range of clinical laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, clinical chemistry, immunohematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, coagulation, molecular, and other emerging diagnostics.
- Facilitate diagnosis of diseases as team member with physicians.
- Interpret and evaluate patient results and suggest or select appropriate additional testing.
- Efficiently apply clinical lab administration including financial, operations, marketing, and human resource management of the clinical laboratory set up
- Provide cost-effective, high-quality, value-added laboratory services.
- Exhibits the qualities of effective teacher to deliver the quality of medical lab education
- Produce active researchers in the field of medical lab sciences for generating innovative concepts and ideas.
- Continue to learn throughout their professional careers after graduation
- Apply educational methodologies and terminology at a level to train/educate users and providers of laboratory services.
- Apply knowledge of principles and practices of administration and supervision applied to clinical laboratory science to improve the efficiency of the workplace
- contribute to quality assurance/quality improvement plans and collaborative healthcare teams to ensure quality healthcare delivery to the community.
Brief Description of the Programme:
Bahria University Health Sciences Campus is offering Master of Science (MS) in Medical Laboratory Sciences in the field of Clinical Laboratory Science/Clinical Pathology/Clinical Chemistry / Medical Biochemistry. This is two Year Degree Program consisting of Core (compulsory) curses and elective courses. The program of study is as follows.

GUEST SPEAKER SESSION ON CAREER PATHWAYS IN MLT
GUEST SPEAKER SESSION ON CAREER PATHWAYS IN MLT
BUCAHS arranged a guest speaker session on October 15, 2024, titled “Exploring Career Pathways in Medical Lab Technology.” The session was presented by Anzila Meer, an alumna of BUHSC’s MLT-1st Batch (2018-2022) and a postgraduate student at Universiti Sains Malaysia specializing in Molecular/Human Genetics and Molecular Pathology, with a focus on Head and Neck Oncology.
INTERNSHIP AT MDRL
The 6-week Summer Internship Program, from June 11 to August 9, 2024, featured 15 students from Ziauddin University and 1 from Jinnah University for Women. Covering key topics in laboratory sciences, including Laboratory Biosafety, Microbiology, and Clinical Chemistry, the program concluded with a comprehensive exam. We congratulate the students and thank the facilitators for their contributions to empowering future laboratory professionals in healthcare.
