Bahria University Karachi Campus organized a two-day workshop on “Pedagogical Innovation”on the 26th and 27th of November 2015. The workshop was conducted by team of eminent instructors from Valparaiso University. Valparaiso University is an institution in United States of America which offers professional training and graduate study, helping students find their own paths to life-long personal and professional growth.
As Bahria University Medical and Dental College (BUMDC) is committed to fostering a culture of excellence in teaching , Asst Prof. Dr Saman Hakeem, HoD Prosthodontics and Asst Prof. Dr, Syed Ahmed Omer, HoD Science of Dental Materials, were designated as participants representing BUMDC in the workshop
Pedagogical Innovation is “a learning approach focused on the development of innovation competences, defining how knowledge is assimilated, produced and used in a manner that can create innovations” It, therefore, reinforces intellectual skills , increases level of understanding and interaction of students with their teachers.
Various teaching strategies were discussed by Prof. Dr. Jim Nelson ,Prof. Dr. Melissa Desjarlais and Prof. Dr. Polly Wainright, the Academic Advisors at Valparaiso University . These included Engaging Students as Critical Thinkers in Large Classes ;Flipping The Classroom ; and Project Solving through Project- based Lab Courses. Valuable learning resources were also shared with the participants which encompassed power point presentations, e- books and articles to facilitate them in becoming proficient educators.
Through this faculty development program, BUMDC plans to upgrade its education system and implement innovative teaching strategies within its curriculum which will not only encourage positive learning environment but also raise the standard of institute on an international level.
