A dental outreach under the banner of Community Support Program(CSP) was arranged by dental section of Bahria University Medical and Dental College (BUMDC) at Dar-ul-Sukun, Home for Senior Citizens. The visiting team consisted of final year students supervised by Dr. Raima Bashir and Dr. Sehrish Ahmed, lecturers at BUMDC and core team members of CSP.
The session commenced with the introduction ofBUMDC followed by a briefing on Community Support Program -an initiative on improving dental public health. CSP is the brainchild of Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi who is heading the Department of Community Dentistry at BUMDC since its inception.
Dr. Raima imparted basic knowledge on maintenance of oral health by showing a power point presentation and providing visual demonstration in form of pictures and models to give a better understanding of routine oral health care procedures.
Dr. Sehrish briefed senior participants about caries and gingival diseases and how these can be prevented. The latter actively participated in the session and asked questions related to their oral health and discussed the treatment modalities. The session concluded with the distribution of free samples sponsored by Colgate amongst the residents of Dar-ul-Sukun.
The seniors and administration of Dar-ul-Sukun appreciated the efforts of BUMDC and expressed hope that more visits like this will be conducted in near future.
