Co-Curricular and Academic Activities Conducted by the English Cluster (2025–2026)

The English Cluster remained committed to promoting experiential learning, academic excellence, professional development, and student engagement by organizing a wide range of academic and co-curricular activities during the academic year.

  • On 2 March 2026, the English Cluster organized an educational field visit to the National Forensic Agency for MS Linguistics (1st and 2nd Semester) students. The visit provided valuable practical exposure to forensic procedures and highlighted the interdisciplinary applications of linguistics in forensic investigations.

  • To enhance students' research and academic writing skills, the English Cluster conducted a Workshop on Efficient Citations and Bibliography Management Using Zotero, EndNote, and Mendeley on 10 March 2026. The workshop equipped students with practical knowledge of reference management tools essential for academic research and scholarly writing.

  • On 30 April 2026, Dr. Sumra Ashfaq organized a Road Safety Awareness Session, aiming to educate students about responsible road usage, traffic regulations, and safe driving practices, thereby fostering civic responsibility and public awareness.

  • Continuing its focus on emerging trends in language studies, Dr. Shazia Bukhari organized a webinar titled "Contemporary Translation Theories and Machine/AI Translation" on 1 May 2026. The webinar introduced participants to modern translation theories and explored the growing impact of artificial intelligence on translation studies and professional practice.

  • The English Cluster also facilitated participation in the International Conference on Emerging Technology in Corpus Linguistics held on 5 May 2026, followed by a Cultural Evening. The event provided students and faculty with opportunities to engage with contemporary research in corpus linguistics while celebrating cultural diversity through various performances and activities.

  • On 14 May 2026, Dr. Shazia Bukhari and Ms. Quratul Ain organized an academic field visit to the National Special Education Center for Hearing-Impaired Children for BS English and MS Linguistics students. The visit enabled students to gain first-hand insight into inclusive education, communication strategies, and the linguistic and educational needs of children with hearing impairments.

  • As part of its student engagement initiatives, the Luminoverse Society organized a screening of the critically acclaimed film Dead Poets Society on 20 May 2026 in the Chinese Lab. The activity encouraged literary appreciation, critical thinking, and reflective discussions on education, creativity, and personal growth.

  • Ms. Tooba Irfan successfully implemented a TEFL-II Community Outreach Campaign involving two student cohorts. The first cohort conducted teaching activities with teenage learners through a visit to a local school, while the second cohort engaged with young children at the Daycare Facility of Bahria University. The campaign provided students with valuable practical teaching experience in authentic educational settings while strengthening community engagement.

  • Earlier in the academic cycle, the Luminoverse Society organized a three-day Sports Gala on 10, 11, and 13 November 2025. The event promoted teamwork, leadership, healthy competition, and physical well-being through a variety of indoor and outdoor sports activities, fostering a vibrant campus environment and encouraging active student participation.

  • Collectively, these initiatives reflect the English Cluster's dedication to providing holistic education by integrating academic enrichment, professional development, community engagement, experiential learning, and extracurricular participation, thereby preparing students to excel in both academic and professional contexts.

  • The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (English Cluster) organized a Workshop on Language Research on 14 November 2025 in the Chinese Lab. The workshop provided students and faculty with practical insights into contemporary language research methodologies, research design, data collection techniques, and scholarly writing, enhancing participants' research competencies.

  • The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (English Cluster) also organized a session on "Creative Writing." The session highlighted the significance of creative writing in the Humanities and Social Sciences by demonstrating how literature and creative expression offer meaningful ways to explore human experiences, emotions, culture, and societal issues. Students actively participated in various creative writing exercises and discussions, which helped enhance their writing, imagination, and critical thinking skills.

  • On 21 April 2025, Ms. Tooba Irfan organized a webinar titled "Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) as a Research Agenda" in the Chinese Lab. The webinar introduced participants to the theoretical foundations and practical applications of Critical Discourse Analysis as a qualitative research methodology. It emphasized the role of language in shaping power relations, ideology, and social structures while equipping students and researchers with analytical tools for conducting discourse-based research.
