Being the lifeline of global economy, secure seaborne trade and effective maritime management of Indian Ocean has become a shared interest of all states around the globe. During the past few decades, emergence of non-traditional threats at sea has not only resulted in uncertainty in prevailing security environment in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), but has also significantly impacted the response options.  Owing to the nature of challenges, there is a growing recognition that the scope and speed of technological advancements are presenting enormous opportunities to ensure effective security solutions. Cooperation; particularly in the fields of MDA, information sharing, support of capacity building are considered vital steps towards improved management of maritime affairs.

Thus, innovation and cooperation in the field of maritime technology are touchstones for secure maritime domain. Modern techniques and innovative application of scientific developments can play a significant role devising comprehensive response mechanisms for addressing traditional and nontraditional threats in maritime domain. By taking advantage of technological advancement, maritime environment can be better protected to promote economic pursuits. In this backdrop, the conduct of Maritime Conference during International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2018 provides an opportunity to maritime community to share knowledge of technological advancements, expertise and learning for ensuring comprehensive security at seas.
