Bahria University Holds 55th Board of Governors Meeting, Reviews Key Academic and Strategic Advancements.
Bahria University held its 55th Board of Governors (BoG) meeting on 12 January 2026 at its Head Office in Islamabad. The session was chaired by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf NI, NI(M), T.Bt, in his capacity as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Governors. The meeting brought together senior leadership, academic experts, and representatives from naval, civil, and university management to evaluate progress and chart future directions for the institution.
Review of Major Academic and Institutional Progress
The meeting commenced with an extensive briefing highlighting the university’s major activities, flagship programmes, and strategic developments undertaken over the past year. Admiral Naveed Ashraf expressed appreciation for the significant achievements Bahria University has made in its academic journey — particularly in strengthening academic excellence, elevating research output, and introducing innovative learning practices to meet the evolving demands of the digital era.
A series of core academic and institutional matters were reviewed and approved. One key decision included the re-organization of Bahria Business School, aimed at expanding academic offerings, improving governance structures, and enhancing the overall student learning experience. Additionally, the revised policy for Psychological Service Centers was formally ratified to reinforce student support services and promote mental wellbeing across the BU community.
Amendments to various University Statutes and Academic Regulations were also approved, ensuring alignment with contemporary academic standards, global best practices, and the university’s long-term development goals.
Strategic Projects and Innovation Initiatives
The Board was briefed on progress related to several high-impact strategic initiatives. Among these, notable advancement was reported on the Pakistan Maritime Science and Technology Park (PMSTP), a national-level flagship project aimed at fostering research, innovation, and industry-academia collaboration in maritime sciences and emerging technologies.
The Board also reviewed the authorization of a key international collaboration — the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Sinology Center (CSC). Recently formalized in Beijing, this partnership will support the development of a specialized research facility at Bahria University Lahore Campus (BULC). The collaboration is expected to enhance cross-cultural research, academic exchange, and knowledge creation between both institutions.

Addressing the Board, Admiral Naveed Ashraf expressed his confidence in the university’s leadership and ongoing initiatives. He noted that Bahria University is poised for further growth through the introduction of quality-driven academic and research reforms.
Importantly, he emphasized that Bahria University’s vision extends beyond academic excellence. The Chair highlighted the crucial role of character building, including moral values, civic responsibility, and personal development (Tarbiyyat), which form the foundation of the university’s holistic educational philosophy. Strengthening these elements remains central to nurturing well-rounded, responsible graduates.
