Discovering Knowledge

Lecture on “Scientific Databases and Journal Categories in Biomedical Research” on November 20, 2025.

The Research Cell successfully organized a comprehensive and engaging lecture on Scientific Databases and Journal Categories in Biomedical Research on November 20, 2025. The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and Darood-e-Pak, setting a serene and respectful tone for the event. Following this, Dr. Wafa Omer, Director Research BUHSCI, warmly welcomed the faculty and emphasized the importance of staying updated with global research tools and standards to enhance the institution’s academic output.

The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Nesheman Huma, who provided an in-depth exploration of the leading scientific databases used in biomedical sciences, including their purpose, navigation methods, and relevance for researchers. She also elaborated on various journal ranking categories—such as impact factors, indexing systems, and quartile rankings—highlighting how these tools help scholars assess the credibility and quality of journals before submitting their research.

Throughout the session, Dr. Nesheman emphasized practical strategies for finding high-quality literature, evaluating research evidence, and selecting appropriate journals for publication. Her clear explanations and real-world examples made the lecture highly informative for both early-career and experienced faculty members.

The event proved to be a valuable professional development opportunity, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to fostering a strong research culture and equipping faculty with essential skills to contribute effectively to biomedical science.
