Training a Lifesaving Skill: Workshop on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Bleeding Control

In line with Bahria University’s vision of betterment of healthier and safer society, the Bahria University College of Allied Health Sciences (BUCAHS) organized a one-day lifesaving training workshop on “Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Bleeding Control”. The program was held under the leadership of Vice Admiral (R) Athar Mukhtar, HI (M), Director General, Bahria University Health Sciences Campus Karachi, in collaboration with the Pakistan Life Savers Programme (PLSP), Centre of Excellence for Trauma and Emergencies, Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH). The workshop, led by Prof. Dr. Mehreen Lateef, Principal BUCAHS, , aimed to enhance community preparedness by equipping participants with critical lifesaving skills and emphasizing timely response in medical emergencies. The program was coordinated by Sr. Engr. Adeel Ahmed Siddiqui along with Ms. Batha Naaz, and Mr. Raza Ali.
A team of professional trainers, led by master trainer Mr. Ayaz from PLSP–AKUH, conducted comprehensive hands-on sessions covering adult, child, and infant CPR, and management of bleeding emergencies. Participants learned how prompt and confident actions can prevent brain damage, save lives, and ensure community safety. The training was comprised of three modules, Module I – Safety and Communication was focused on personal safety and effective communication with rescue services during emergencies. Module II – Cardiac Arrest: Covered the recognition of cardiac arrest symptoms, safe patient handling, and practical CPR demonstration. Module III – Bleeding Control: Addressed the management of superficial and deep wounds, control of excessive bleeding. These modules were integrated with practical demonstrations using training mannequins and simulated materials. Participants received hands-on training and were evaluated through both practical and theoretical assessments to qualify for CPR certification.Vice Admiral (R) Athar Mukhtar, HI (M) presented a shield and distributed certificates to the master trainers as a token of appreciation for their contribution. He also appreciated the efforts of BUCAHS and PLSP–AKUH, emphasizing that such training initiatives are essential to handle life-threatening emergencies. He further encouraged BUCAHS participants to extend this knowledge to their families and communities and expressed hope that similar trainings will be conducted by other colleges of Bahria University Health Sciences Campus Karachi (BUHSCK) in the future.
