World Heart Day 2025

“World Heart Day” was observed with dedication under the WHO theme “Don’t Miss a Beat” at BUCM on 29th September 2025. The event was organized by Department of Community Medicine & Public Health in Collaboration with Department of Cardiology & Student Support Center. The event aimed to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), promote preventive care, and encourage heart-healthy lifestyles.

 Voluntary Medical & Cardiac Check-up (23rd–25th Sept)

A three-day health screening was conducted for staff in Pay Scales 1–7 at the BUCM in Sick Bay. A total of 113 individuals (99 males, 14 females) were examined.

  • Weight Status:
Among males, 48 had average weight, 25 were overweight, 15 extremely overweight, and 15 underweight.
Among females, 4 had average weight, 5 were overweight, 2 extremely overweight, and 3 underweight.
  • Blood Pressure:
Normal BP was recorded in 80 males and 10 females. High BP was found in 19 males and 4 females.

These findings highlighted the need for continued health education and regular screenings, particularly among support staff.

Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali opened the event with a comprehensive talk on the national and global burden of CVDs. He emphasized key risk factors such as poor diet, inactivity, and hypertension, while highlighting the preventive value of physical activity like walking.

Awareness Walk:
An awareness walk took place from 10:00 to 10:30 AM, starting at the main reception and ending at the university gate. Students and Faculty actively participated, carrying banners with the message:
“World Heart Day 2025 – Don’t Miss a Beat.”

Educational Session:
At 11:00 AM, Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali addressed staff on the growing burden of heart disease in Pakistan, stressing the importance of regular check-ups and healthy lifestyle choices. A mid-session Q&A allowed staff to engage and receive practical advice on heart health.
