Welcome to the Department of Periodontology at Bahria University Medical and Dental College. Periodontology Department stands high when it comes to safeguarding patient’s oral health including periodontium. The Department team is amalgamation of high esteemed clinicians and academicians, who renders high quality services to the community and produce skilled clinicians. Patient’s periodontal wellbeing is of prime importance for the department.
Students are tremendously motivated to perform knowledge translation activities under the umbrella of this department. Academicians of department work hard to nurture cognitive, affective and psycho-motor based competencies among students to address the diverse dental needs of people of our society.
Department of Periodontology is under meritorious supervision of Prof. Dr. Farzeen Tanwir, who has earned her PhD degree from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. She also has double Post doc to her credit from Karolinska institutet and University of Toronto, Canada. In addition the department faculty includes 2 fully trained Masters and 2 skilled full Senior Registrars.
This department encompasses a comprehensive periodontal care services offered to individual of all ages presenting with signs and symptoms regarding periodontium investing tissue structures.
The specialty of Periodontics deals with the comprehensive study of the structures and functions of the periodontium in both health and disease. It deals with the ethology, clinical features, pathophysiology, diagnosis, prevention and management of various periodontal diseases. The aim of the department is to educate and train dental students a basic understanding of periodontal science and practical training necessary to provide patients with basic periodontal care. The main goal also includes providing advanced periodontal training to house officers to enhance their skills for periodontal procedures. The department of Periodontics is committed to provide various dental services including Scaling and root planning, Curettage, Gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, Crown lengthening, Abscess removal, Operculectomy, Flap surgery & regenerative therapies, Splinting and Teeth Whitening.
The course outline is specially fabricated to address areas of critical thinking, competency development, inculcating team work, professional ethics, enabling students to take decision in critical situations and skilfully handling medical emergencies in periodontal clinics.
