The Department of Paediatrics is one of the major clinical disciplines in any medical College. It continues to be an icon of excellence in education, medical research, and patient care.
The department vision is to contribute to the university’s vision to become a knowledge and creativity driven international university that contributes towards development of society.
The Department of Paediatrics is a highly active department. It has a well-developed undergraduate teaching and training program, in collaboration with Shifa Hospital.
The department’s goal is to make learning practical as well as student-centered. Accordingly, the lectures, PSILs, Journal club, as well as CPC for students, are of an interactive nature, designed to encourage student participation and self-learning. We endeavor to develop in our students the right attitude towards the patients and the society as well as promoting health education. The focus of our teaching programs is to ensure that the future health care providers understand the major health problems of the children in the country and know how to deal with them.
As a part of university's teaching program, students trained in common paediatrics problems. We expect that every student should have the minimum knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive health care to children, counsel the mothers and care givers on immunization, nutritional needs of a growing child and risk factors. The students are taught Social and preventive pediatrics, Growth and development, Nutrition, Perinatology, Neonatology, Genetics, Nephrology, Cardiology, Respiratory system, Hematology/oncology, Rheumatology, Infectious diseases, Endocrinology, Neurology, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Paediatric emergencies and Paediatric Surgery.
