Biochemistry, the science unraveling the chemical basis of life, aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying all biological processes, with a strong emphasis on their clinical relevance. By integrating principles from cell biology, molecular biology, and molecular genetics, biochemistry provides a comprehensive understanding of living systems.
The knowledge of biochemistry is fundamental to all life sciences, forming an inseparable link with medicine. Indeed, health is maintained by the intricate and balanced network of biochemical reactions within the body, while disease often arises from disruptions in biomolecules, biochemical pathways, and metabolic processes. Consequently, biochemical investigations are indispensable in elucidating the etiology of diseases and in the rational design of effective therapeutic interventions.
The Department of Biochemistry, situated on the third floor of the BUMDC building, boasts a well-equipped laboratory where students actively engage in hands-on experimentation, fostering a deeper understanding of biochemical principles. Committed to providing high-quality education, the Biochemistry Department is staffed with qualified and experienced faculty and dedicated technical personnel, all meeting the standards set by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). The department strives to cultivate a stimulating learning environment that empowers students to excel in this critical field.
