The Pakistan Navy Nursing College (PNNC), located within the Bahria University Health Sciences Campus, Karachi (BUHSC-K) and adjacent to PNS SHIFA Hospital, is a premier institution committed to excellence in nursing education. PNNC offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, aligned with the standards of the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The program blends rigorous academic instruction with hands-on clinical training, preparing students to become competent, compassionate, and ethical nursing professionals. With a strong focus on academic excellence, professional integrity, and community service, PNNC provides a supportive environment where students grow into future leaders in healthcare.

As a constituent unit of Bahria University, PNNC is affiliated with the Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council (PN&MC) and has been allocated 150 seats for its BSN programme.
PNNC established in 1982 to cater exclusively to armed forces cadets, PNNC expanded its offerings to include a nursing diploma programme in 1987 and a BSN programme in 2014. Over the years, eight cohorts of armed forces nursing students have graduated with a BSN degree. Notably, in 2022, civilian students were admitted alongside the ninth batch of army nursing cadets, highlighting the distinctive feature of PNNC in educating and training both military and civilian nursing students under a unified leadership, emphasizing the institution's commitment to excellence and rigor in nursing education. In the year 2025, PNNC plans to expand its educational portfolio by introducing a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programme. This initiative underscores our dedication to the progression of nursing education and the preparation of our graduates for pivotal leadership positions within the healthcare sector. The MSN programme will enhance our established reputation for excellence, offering advanced training and research opportunities that align with the increasing needs of the healthcare industry.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at PNNC is a comprehensive four-year degree designed to prepare graduates for advanced practice as Registered Nurses. The program emphasizes the development of in-depth nursing knowledge, clinical skills, and professional attitudes essential for high-quality healthcare delivery. It includes structured coursework followed by a one-year internship, in alignment with the curriculum standards set by the Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council (PN&MC) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The learning outcomes of the BSN programme are to:
i. Prepare competent and committed nurse clinicians for all healthcare and community settings.
ii. Provide safe and quality nursing care for the prevention of disease, promotion, and maintenance of health to individuals, families, and communities.
iii. Equip the graduates with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for the provision of safe nursing and quality care.
iv. Integrate research findings for the provision of evidence-based best care for individuals, families, and communities.
v. Develop the graduates’ critical thinking, problem-solving, decision making and leadership skills for confronting the complexities and demands of health care in the 21st century.
vi. Adhere to an established pattern of professional practices within the cultural, religious, legal, and ethical framework at the national and international level.
vii. Inculcate effective communication skills, while dealing with peers, patients, families, communities, and inter-disciplinary professionals.
viii. Enable the graduates to utilize concepts, standards, and strategies while leading and coordinating planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients, families, and communities’ care.
ix. Equip the graduates to maintain a safe and healthy environment for the prevention of disease, promotion, and maintenance of health.
x. Prepare the graduates to participate actively in professional organizations for the improvement of the nursing profession.
xi. Inculcate the importance of continuing competence and the value of lifelong learning.

At PNNC-BUHSC(K), our experienced and qualified faculty provide hands-on training and mentorship, ensuring students gain practical exposure at the 732-bedded PNS SHIFA Hospital. Guided by PN&MC standards and UN health goals, our faculty support student development through quality education and paid internship opportunities.
We facilitate clinical rotations, allowing students to immerse themselves in deferent specialty areas as per PN& MC criteria as shown in below chart.
Field visits by PNNC offers a wealth of learning opportunities for students, relevance to curriculum nursing. These visits prompt the students to explore opportunities & experiences that would increase learning about the community through structured community surveys, identifying their needs and implement need-based projects to enhance the integration of learning between theory and practice.
The goal of the internship programme is aligned with PN&MC. It aims to provide opportunities that support the development of a competent and professional nurse. It assists in the transition of the new nurse into a specialty area of practice by integrating the knowledge, skills and attitudes they have acquired at PNNC and with additional competence in nursing practice in different setting before practicing independently. Through partnerships with PNS SHIFA Hospital, our students gain invaluable experience in a hospital setting.
The Pakistan Navy Nursing College (PNNC) is committed to providing high-quality education that meets the evolving demands of the healthcare sector. To this end, the establishment of the Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) plays a pivotal role. The primary purpose of the CAC is to obtain corporate advice from expert members in the nursing field, drawn from renowned organizations. This council aims to enhance the quality of education at PNNC by rigorously reviewing and refining the curriculum, program structure, teaching methodologies, assessment strategies, evaluation processes, and continuous improvement mechanisms.
PNNC has established significant linkages with leading healthcare organizations in Karachi. These partnerships allow our faculty and students to gain valuable insights into the nursing profession, broadening their horizons and fostering the exploration of diverse nursing opportunities. This collaboration is instrumental in bridging the gap between academic learning and practical application, ensuring that our graduates are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the healthcare industry.
PNNC offers BSN four years full-time Degree programme leading to practice as Advance Registered Nurse which enhances the nursing knowledge, skills and professional attitude. BS Nursing (BSN) program consists of four years comprising of course work and one year internship as per PN&MC and Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved curriculum.
