Discovering Knowledge

E&Es Labs

1.    The Environmental Science Laboratory is fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to support research and experimentation on water, soil, plant, microbiological, and air samples. The lab is furnished with essential chemicals, glassware, and advanced equipment, including an autoclave, laminar flow hood, water bath, centrifuge, incubators, oven, shaking incubator, and UV-spectrophotometer. These resources enable comprehensive experimental work and sample preparation for subsequent analysis.UV Spectro photometer : It measures the absorbance and transmittance of light by a sample. The  quantitative and qualitative analysis, determining the concentration and structure of substances in fields like chemistry, biology, medicine, A shaking incubator's primary use is for simultaneously maintaining a controlled temperature and providing consistent agitation to biological samples, promoting cell growth, mixing nutrients, and increasing oxygenation

Analytical Lab

1.      X ray Diffraction (XRD)

Determine the crystallographic structure of a material

2.      Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS)

Determine the concentration of metal atoms/ions in a sample

3.      High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)

Separate, identify, and quantify compounds in a mixture dissolved in a solution

4.      Gas Chromatography (GC with FID and TCD)

Separate and analyze compounds that can be vaporized without decomposition and to test the purity of a substance or separate components of a mixture

5.      Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS)

Separate complex mixtures, identify unknown peaks to determine trace levels of contamination

Geophysical Lab

The Geophysical Laboratory in the Department of Earth and environmental Sciences serves as a vital facility for training undergraduate and post graduate students in advanced methods of data processing, and interpretation. Equipped with essential instruments such as 1D and 2D resistivity meters and GPR, the laboratory enables students to practically apply geophysical concepts to real-world subsurface and geotechnical investigations. In addition to field equipment, the laboratory is integrated with specialized software packages that support data analysis and modeling, including seismic interpretation tools, potential field modeling programs, well-log analysis systems, and GIS-based platforms.

Widely used industry-standard software such as

·         Petrel,

·         G verse Geopgraphix suit,

·         Hampson Russel

·         Power Log,

·         Decision space geophysics,

·         Basin Mod,

·         Move etc

These all software’s are utilized for seismic structural and stratigraphic interpretation, structural restoration, reservoir characterization, well log interpretation and integrated geophysical modeling. Through this combination of hands-on instrumentation and advanced computational tools, the laboratory provides students with a comprehensive skill set, bridging theoretical geophysics with applied research and professional practice.

Rock Cutting Lab Overview:

The Rock Cutting Lab provides facilities for the characterization of rocks, soils, and aggregates. It supports the study of the mechanical behavior of geomaterials, fundamental soil properties, and durability and strength assessment of aggregates. The lab also enables the preparation of thin sections for detailed petrographic and microstructural analysis. The geotechnical lab facility of Bahria University is equipped with instruments that can offer variety of soil and rock test for academic research and commercialization.

Following instruments are present in the laboratory currently for performing the analysis.
