Duration: 06 months morning course adopting hybrid model with face-to-face component of 3 weeks.

Total Credit Hours: 12

Pre-requisite Qualification: MBBS, BDS, DPT, BSN & Allied health sciences

Fee structure:

  • Registration Fee: Rs. 1000.
  • Rs. 60,000 for Externals 
  • Rs. 50,000 for Bahria /SHIFA Faculty

Rationale of the Certificate Course: 

Recent years have shown a rapid change in health professionals’ education scenario in Pakistan. Many new educational institutes, including medical universities are emerging, posing new challenges to the quality of medical education. Modern educational concepts such as curricular integration, better assessment methods, inter-professional education/collaboration, and introduction of stringent accreditation standards are rapidly establishing their roots. The need for well-trained and actively functioning faculty is increasingly being realized at the level of regulatory bodies and policy making institutes. This course is an attempt to bridge the gaps in the craft of both young and experienced faculty member.

Objectives of the Certificate Course: 

  • Discuss different theories and beliefs, about how students learn
  • Differentiate between discipline-based, organ-based, problem-based, competency-based, and evidence-based curricular models, to apply the dynamics of each model in appropriate settings.
  • Differentiate between goals, objectives & outcomes for curriculum planning.
  • Identify, develop and use effectively appropriate learning resources to support student learning including a range of technology-based resources.
  • Critically review literature relevant to different teaching methods 
  • Distinguish different types of competency-based assessment (formative, summative, norm-referenced and criterion-referenced) with their application in medical education
  • Differentiate between different types of curricular blueprints in relation to assessment
  • Identify and select relevant and feasible research questions and problems. 
  • Identify the various data collection methods 
  • Design and critique evaluation strategies and models for programs and modules

Outcomes of the Certificate Course:

By the end of the 6 months course, the participants will be able to: 

  • Apply educational principles to design curriculum and learning objectives
  • Identify different types of learners and use teaching and learning strategies according to them
  • Design effective teaching sessions and have skills to conduct them 
  • Develop quality assessments items according to the domains of learning and can avoid item writing flaws 
  • Develop an understanding of educational leadership and research basics

Venue: Both On & Off Site 

Mode of Study/Examination: 

  • Face to Face and distance learning
  • No formal exam however, participants will be evaluated by means of continuous assessments during face-to-face sessions and submission of final assignment at the end of the course

Minimum Qualification for Admission: 16 years of education, (MBBS, BDS, BSN, DPT or allied health sciences)

Admission Eligibility Criteria: (to be aligned with accreditation/regulatory bodies)

  • 16 years of education, (MBBS, BDS, BSN, DPT & allied health sciences)
  •  Valid registration from regulatory body HEC's equivalency certificate for the candidate's foreign degrees.
  •   A statement of purpose (Maximum 2,000 words) to be evaluated by the Admission Committee.

Number of Admissions Expected for First Intake: 45 (fixed for the subsequent years as well)
