BUMDC Dental Faculty Visits Altinbas University

ERASMUS TEACHING MOBILITY PROGRAM

Bahria University and Altinbas University of Turkey have a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate educational and research collaborations with each other. A delegation from Altinbas University visited BUMDC and conducted educational activities for students and faculty members encouraging future research collaboration between the two universities. Since then faculty from BUMDC has been visiting Altinbas University on yearly basis.

The Aim of this mobility program is to learn about the teaching system of the undergraduate and post graduate programs undergoing at the university and to explore any possibility of future research collaboration.

This year Dr. Tabassum Ahsan, Associate Prof. and Head of Orthodontics at BUMDC was selected by Bahria University to visit and conduct educational sessions at Altinbas University.

The details of the teaching activity had been prepared and agreed upon by both the parties beforehand.

On the first day the ERASMUS staff, Betul SOZSAV, and Hilal, briefed about ERASMUS program and Altinbas University including information regarding its undergrad and post grad studies and faculty. At the end of the presentation there was a round of the

University showing their different basic sciences laboratories, teaching rooms and other facilities present on the premises.

The Department of Orthodontics is well equipped and has a strong faculty including three Professors and 2 Assistant Professors. Assist. Prof. Pelin Acar and Assist. Prof. Seden Akan, very graciously spared their time to show Dr. Tabassum around along with keeping company during the lectures and lunches.

Prof. Dr. Sabri lhan RAMO LU is a full-time faculty and the senior most in the absence of Prof. Dr. Korkmaz who had gone at a conference.

The teaching activity started from the second day, and was arranged for the Ph.D. and MSc students of Orthodontics. The lectures delivered were on various clinical topics that were relevant to the students, and were selected on the basis of their benefit to the students while working on their patients.

As the students were all undergoing post graduate studies, healthy discussions on different treatment options, treatment plans, adverse effects of treatment, different methodologies were undertaken and were throughly enjoyed and appreciated by the students

On the third day the students had a treatment planning session for four hours. The session was conducted by Prof. Dr. Toros ALCAN, while the

rest of the faculty including Dr. Tabassum contributed with their ideas and knowledge.
