This year World Oral Health day was a celebration of “Healthy Mouth Healthy Body” in more than 50 countries worldwide including Pakistan. The powerful message promulgated on that day was to raise awareness about the impact of oral health on general health and how positive oral health practices can ensure general well-being by reducing disease burden.
BUMDC celebrated this occasion in full spirits by arranging a 3-day-session including oral health awareness activities and free dental checkups
On 16th March the Inaugural ceremony was held at the Bahria auditorium in the presence of all dental faculty and students. The ceremony began with a welcome note by Incharge Programme WOHD BUMDC, Dr. Daud Mirza, HOD Oral Pathology followed by Affaf Fatima, student of Final year BDS, who spoke on the importance of World Oral Health day. In the end Principal Dental section, Prof. Dr. Zubair Ahmed Abbasi addressed the students and faculty to appreciate their efforts. The students arranged oral health awareness posters and activities like face painting outside the dental OPDs.
On 17th March BUMDC dental section arranged a World Oral Health Day walk in PNS Shifa. The walk’s aim was to highlight the message of this year’s world oral health day “Healthy Mouth Healthy Body”.
On 18th March the World Oral health day seminar was organized in the auditorium in the esteemed presence of DG BUMDC Vice Admiral (Retd) Tahseenullah Khan, HI(M), Principal Dental section, Prof. Dr. Zubair Ahmed Abbassi, dental faculty and students.
The seminar began with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by a lecture on “Impact of Oral Health on Systemic Health” by guest speaker from Hamdard University, Prof. Dr. Kashif Naqvi. He explained the origin of health problems as a result of bad oral hygiene. The second guest speaker, Dietician from PNS Shifa hospital, Dr. Mubina Arif spoke on “Role of diet in oral diseases” and explained healthy dietary habits to prevent oral and systemic diseases.
The lectures were followed by a skit prepared by students of dental section who highlighted the bad habits of eating pan, gutka and smoking on oral health.
Affaf Fatima carried out the best smile contest 2016 which was judged by Dr. Tabassum Ahsan, HOD of Orthodontics and Dr.Mushtaq Ahmed, HOD Periodontology
Thank you note to the volunteers of Oral health day activities was given by Safia Anwar followed by a Vote of thanks was delivered to the speakers, faculty and participants by Dr. Kulsoom Fatima, Head of Department of Community Dentistry.
DG BUMDC and Principal Dental section presented certificates to the guest speakers and organizers and appreciated the immense efforts of the dental section to promote oral health.
Students of BUMDC also distributed Colgate goody bags at Edhi Child Home Korangi 5 to spread smiles on this World Oral Health day.
21st March BUMDC organized free dental checkups in all its OPDS as part of their World Oral health celebrations.
