First Year Orientation and White Coat Ceremony for the fourth incoming BDS batch of Bahria University Medical and Dental College was held on Tuesday, 22nd December 2015 at the university auditorium. The event was attended by faculty members, senior naval officers, and new dental students who were accompanied by their parents.
The ceremony commenced at 9 am with the recitation of the Holy Quraan, followed by the national anthem.The hosts of the ceremony, Dr. OmairMajeed and Dr. Raima Bashir, greeted the audience and congratulated the incoming batch of 2015-2019 on behalf of BUM&DC
Principal Dental Section, Prof. DrZubair Ahmed Abbasi, in his welcoming address motivated the fresh inductees and shared with them the true vision and their responsibilities in their life ahead.
Brig Retd Prof. Dr. Shaheen Moin, Principal Bahria University and Dean of Faculty and Health Sciences also graced the occasion with her presence and addressed the audience emphasizing the indispensable role of a dentist towards the community health and the need for compassion, honesty and dedication throughout the journey towards becoming a successful dental professional.
Vice Admiral Retd Tehseenullah Khan, Director General Bahria University Medical & Dental College and Chief Guest of the Ceremony ,took the podium and said that the mission of Bahria University Medical & Dental College is to impart quality education and provide state-of-the-art educational programmes for health professionals at the under-graduate level.He also mentioned that the institute encourages active participation of students in extra-curricular activities.
Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi, Vice Principal Dental Section and Head of the Department of Community Dentistry, discussed the BDS curriculum, teaching methodologies and student evaluation protocol at BUM&DC.
Surgeon Commodore Akhtar Hussain Bangash, Commandant PNS Shifa, handed over white coats to the students symbolizing their entry into the dental profession. Professor Dr.Zubair Ahmed Abbasi took Oath from the newly enrolled dental students who pledged to serve the nation as responsible doctors.
The event closed off with the traditional signing-in ceremony and photo session of all the students, parents and dental faculty , marking an inspiring and optimistic beginning to the new academic year.
