Our internship group visited Karwan-e Hayat for getting experience in a psychiatric setting. Our major objectives were to make psychiatric observations, assessment, brief supporting sessions. We also conducted three workshops and two focus group sessions in order to spend quality time with psychiatric patients and also to give them insight and awareness on different life issues.

A workshop was conducted with staff on effective handling of psychiatric patients and communication skills. It was conducted to basically train them that how they can effectively work with aggressive clients.

Second workshop was conducted on hope with art therapy techniques in order to educate them on positive aspects of life.

Another workshop has designed on “self care” for patients. It would be aimed to give them a guide on daily routine activities and health.

Two focus group sessions were conducted with inpatients and outpatients. First focus group was conducted on topic of “happiness” and other on “self confidence”. These focus groups were aimed to engage clients in an educated activity and to make them feel that they are important.

Our visit was consisting of four days and 10-11 hours.
