Stream of Trainings on ZOOM, MS Teams and LMS

As soon as the country’s lockdown was implemented due to COVID-19 and online classes were mandated by the HEC, the Management Studies Department organized multiple training sessions for permanent and visiting faculty members in the use of Zoom and MS Teams for conduct of online classes. The first of these training sessions was conducted on-campus on by HOD Business Studies Department Dr. Sayma Zia on 5 March 2020. It was about “How to use Zoom for online teaching.”

This on-campus training session was followed by a series of online trainings in the use of Zoom and MS Teams by Mr. Bilawal Ali and Mr. Khurram Adeel Shaikh, respectively. The training on 11 April 2020 by Mr. Bilawal was entitled, “Reorientation on Zoom” while the training on 24 April was focused on BU LMS and Online Quiz Management. Mr. Khurram’s training on 12 April covered usage of MS Teams, BU LMS and using MS and Google Forms for Online Quizzes. A follow-up training for several visiting faculty was also held on 24 April 2020. All sessions were well attended by the faculty and they truly helped the teachers to deliver as suggested by HEC guidelines.

Orientation Cum Workshop on Gradual reopening of BUKC During Pandemic

 

Fall 2020s Orientation for faculty at BBS (BUKC) was held during the COVID-19. The HOD Business Studies Department Dr Sayma Zia delivered the session on 11th September 2020 in Fatima Jinnah Hall, Karachi Campus through blended mode. The sitting was attended by permanent and visiting faculty both on campus and online via Zoom. She acquainted the participants with the HEC/BUKC guidelines towards the teaching mode for fall 2020. Her basic focus included minimum preparedness conditions, stepwise reopening of the institution, steps to be undertaken by university and returnees before reopening, monitoring and control measures/SOPs and the teaching plan to be followed.

Blended & Hybrid Mode of Teaching

On September 09, 2020 a training session was organized to train the HODs of BS and MS Dept. including the faculty about hybrid/blended mode of teaching. This session was a need of the hour as the pandemic has changed the face of academics too. Prof. Dr. Bashir Ahmed, Principal, Bahria Business School, Karachi conducted this training through a detailed presentation. He focused on the need to adopt a blended mode to teach and its significance towards helping students learn with interest and commitment. In addition, The Honorable, Principal also shared the advised ratio by NABEC and HEC towards student -faculty in classrooms and its effect on learning and academic progress.

As part of the ongoing Faculty Development Sessions (FDS) being coordinated by Mr. Muhammad Faisal, Training Coordinator Business Studies Dept., organized a hands-on online training session by Mr. Khurram Adeel Shaikh on 25 Sept 2020, in the use of Google Drive, Dropbox and MS OneDrive. The trainer focused on four aspects: file synchronization across various devices (smartphones, laptops / desktops), setting up real-time backup, sharing files and folders for viewing and collaborating with others. He also gave a brief overview of the Public Knowledge Project’s Open Journal System (OJS) for the upcoming migration of the GMJACS website. Open Journal Systems (OJS) is free and open-source platform for managing and publishing academic journals. The session was attended by faculty members of Business Studies Dept.
