Startup – Success Story” of by Speaker Mr. Rafay Baloch Alumnus of Computer Science Department.
Mr. Rafay Baloch, is an Ethical Hacker and security researcher known for his discovery of vulnerabilities on the Android operating system. He has been featured and known by both national and international media and publications like Forbes, BBC, The Wall Street Journal, and The Express Tribune. He has been listed among the “Top 5 Ethical Hackers of 2014” by CheckMarx. Subsequently he was listed as one of “The 15 Most Successful Ethical Hackers Worldwide” and among “Top 25 Threat Seekers” by SC magazine. Baloch has also been added in Tech Juice 25 under 25 list for the year 2016 and got 13th rank in the list of high achievers. He is currently working as a Cyber Security Advisor to Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
He began his hacking career while he was still doing his bachelor’s. He then wrote a book called “Ethical Hacking Penetration Testing Guide”. He is the first Pakistani security researcher to be acknowledged by Google, Facebook, PayPal, Apple, Microsoft and many other international organizations. He has also written several papers on information security, namely “HTML5 Modern Day Attack Vectors”, “Web Application Firewall Bypass”, and “Bypassing Browser Security Policies For Fun And Profit”.
He has been active into bug bounty programs and has reported several critical vulnerabilities in several open source web applications as well as in bug bounty programs. Baloch found critical vulnerabilities in PayPal in 2012: he hacked into PayPal servers by exploiting a remote code execution vulnerability.
He was rewarded $10,000 and a job offer to work for them as a Security Researcher that he refused as he was still doing his bachelor’s at that time from Bahria University Karachi Campus. He has actively reported several critical vulnerabilities in browsers. He started by finding Same Origin Policy (SOP) bypass in Android Stock browser which was initially rejected by Google; however, this was later verified by Google after researchers from Rapid7 verified it. This was coined as CVE-2014-6041.
Baloch followed by reporting several other SOP bypasses. Researchers at Trend Micro found this bug to be more widespread. It was later reported that hackers had been actively using Baloch’s SOP bypass exploits for hacking into Facebook accounts. The SOP bypass bug was elevated by Rapid7 researcher Joe Vennix for conducting a remote code execution. Baloch also found several vulnerabilities affecting WebView which allowed an attacker to read local files as well as steal cookies from the user device.
In 2018, Baloch unveiled a crack in both Safari and Microsoft’s Edge browser that paved the way for the URL of a safe website to be shown in the address bar while users were actually being taken to a different, and possibly malicious, website. Rafay Baloch identified the security issue and informed Apple and Microsoft in early June. Microsoft fixed the issue within two months, but Apple didn’t respond to Baloch’s report despite of the deadline given of 90 days grace period, so he made the details public as per international rule.
Rafay Baloch wrote in his article that an address bar can be used to easily breach someone’s privacy without them noticing it. The reason this is possible is because an address bar is the only reliable indicator for security in new browsers, as it displays the site’s URL and other details related to the webpage one is on

Engr. Rahil Jabbar Alumnus of Electrical Engineering Department, Bahria University Karachi Campus (BUKC). Engr. Rahil Jabbar, currently working as shift supervisor at BARKET FERTILIZER PVT LTD, after selection at 5th Launchpad Business Incubation Center, Bahria University Karachi Campus (BIC- BUKC) founded a startup called Ever New Round (ENR). His first project was IoT based in which objects was to automatically water the garden. The project was successfully completed 80%, the future implementation of this project was on plants at center of the two roads. Moreover, on the street & Road lights energy saving. after worked with many projects from the industry, i.e. transmission data on power line. they have also participated into Punjab Summit’18 at University of Punjab, and Momentum Tech Conference’18. And he is also associate with Openvenk pk , which is an open source ventilator (Made in Pakistan) and this company designed in the DISRUPT LAB under the supervision of Sir Engr. Umair Arif Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering.
Engr. Shoaib Ali Alumnus of Computer Engineering Department, Bahria University Karachi Campus (BUKC). Engr. Shoaib Ali Currently doing Masters in Computer Science specialization in IoT Internet of Things, received Fully Funded Scholarship from University of Salerno, Italy worth 9000 euros per year on the Startup performance, after selection at 5th Launchpad Business Incubation Center, Bahria University Karachi Campus (BIC- BUKC) founded a startup called IOT Solutions which won the National Runners- Up Award in Microsoft Imagine Cup at 2018 for the project on “Air Quality Monitoring System for Asthma Patient” across the Pakistan with 220 universities, they have also participated into Punjab_Summit’18 at University of the Punjab , and Momentum Tech Conference’18. His research area is Internet of Things currently working on Data Analytics in IoT and Context Aware Security Analysis in Computer Vision.

Syed Faizan Hussain graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in CS from Bahria in 2016. During his time with Bahria University he was engaged in numerous activities such as he won Imagine Cup Brain Games 2014 and Won Imagine Cup 2014 Regional Finals in major category (World Citizenship, Innovations and Games). Faizan also served two consecutive terms as Microsoft Student Partner and played a vital role for Microsoft’s technology training among the students at the campus. In 2013 he founded Perihelion Systems, a social enterprise and non-profit developing products that aim to address social challenges in Pakistan through technology. Perihelion Systems launched products including One Health, a disease tracking and surveillance system, and Edu-Aid, a software translating sign language gestures. On basis of his meritorious services he was awarded scholarship by US Department of States to study entrepreneurship at Indiana University. Later Faizan was awarded with the Queen’s Young Leader Award in 2017 and was also entitled in Forbes 30 under 30 list of 2018. Faizan is a keen towards helping others and continues to strive for betterment of Pakistan. In 2018 Faizan immigrated to Germany to work as a software consultant for a French consultancy firm named Altran. These days Faizan is pursuing his masters in Computer Science at University of Stuttgart. Prior to immigrating he had worked for a couple of companies namely Microsoft as Technical Evangelist.
