Seminar on “Gender Dysphoria (Gender Identity Disorder)” by Dr. David L. Rowland

A one-day seminar on Gender Dysphoria was conducted by Dr. David Rowland. He is Professor of Psychology and Dean of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education at Valparaiso University. Professor Rowland’s teaching interests lie in the areas of Physiological Psychology, Human Sexuality, and Sensation and Perception.

The seminar conducted helped the students gain a better insight into what Gender dysphoria is, its etiological causes and how can we diagnose and help treat individuals that might be suffering from this disorder. Professor Rowland explained in detail the recent research into the probable biological causes of Gender dysphoria and provided guidelines regarding diagnosis, treatment and strategies that might help guide the client and family.

In a society like ours, gender and sex related issues are not talked about much due to which the importance of this seminar was very high. It is necessary that our students have exposure regarding such issues so that they are better equipped with dealing with them in clinical settings.

After the seminar an informative interaction session was held between the students and Dr. Rowland which helped them gain an even better insight regarding the topic and opened doors for research topics of such nature.
