History

The Department of Humanities & Social Sciences was established in 2007, Initially offering the Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSS) Program with 04 major streams (Media Studies. International Relations, Development Studies, Anthropology & Sociology). In 2020 department was given the status of school Bahria School of Humanities and Social Sciences (BH3S) encompassing four departments, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Media Studies and Islamic Studies and Psychology. Psychology attained a separate department status in 2023.

 

In June 2016, Media Studies attained independent departmental status, beginning with an enrollment of approximately 150 students. Presently, the department has grown significantly, currently accommodating 754 students. The department currently offers 2 UG and 2 PG Programs including Bachelor in Media Studies, BS TV Broadcasting & Digital Media, MS in Media Studies, PHD in Media Studies.

 

Department of Islamic Studies was launched in November 2020 offering PG program in Islamic Studies i.e, MS Islamic Studies (Islam and Life) Currently, The Department is offering both UG and PG Programs in Islamic Studies including BS Islamic Studies and MS Islamic Studies and planning to launch PhD Islamic Studies in Fall 2024.

 

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (H&SS) currently houses a diverse range of 04 undergraduate (UG) including BS International Relations, BS Development Studies, BS Public Health and BS English and 05 postgraduate (PG) programs including MS International Relations, MS Government and Public Policy, PhD International Relations, MS Applied Anthropology catering to various disciplines in the domains of International Relations, Developmental Studies, Sociology, Public Health and English. With a total enrollment of 895 students across multiple programs. The recent approval of MS Linguistics marks another feather in the cap for the department.

 

The evolution of the BH3S reflects its commitment to expanding academic offerings and meeting the diverse needs of its students. From its inception in 2007 with a focused array of programs, the department has grown and diversified significantly. The recent growth in both student enrollment and program offerings, including the introduction of new programs like underscores the department’s dynamic and forward-looking approach. As it continues to evolve, the department remains dedicated to fostering academic excellence and addressing the evolving educational needs of its student body.
