-:Note for PhD Candidates:-

The candidate passing University Entrance Test or having valid GRE/GAT (Subject) score for PhD admission at BU, needs to develop quality research proposal and submit to the Department Admission Committee.

MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

PhD Management Sciences

  • 17.5/18 years of education (as applicable to the particular PG Programme) with Masters/MS/ MPhil/equivalent degree from an HEC-recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.00/4.00 (semester system) or 60% marks (only where CGPA is not given/available).
  • NTS-GAT (Subject Test), or GRE (Subject Test), passed with minimum 60% marks, or BU Admission Test (70% passing marks). Result be submitted at the time of application. A statement of purpose (Maximum 2,000 words) to be evaluated by the Admission Committee.
  • HEC’s attestation on the candidate’s local degrees (on the back of the original degrees). HEC’s equivalency certificate for the candidate’s foreign degrees.
  • A statement of purpose of 2000 words shall also be submitted by the PhD candidate.

PhD Economics

  • MS/ M-Phil economics degree (17.5/18 years of education) with consistently good academic record and minimum of 60% marks in the annual system or CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.00 in the semester system.
  • A minimum of 60% marks in the GAT- subject test conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS). All candidates seeking admission to the PhD program are required to provide the GAT-Subject score. Or Candidates must have atleast 70% score in university based subject test.   
  • A statement of purpose of 2000 words shall also be submitted by the PhD candidate.

ENGINEERING SCIENCES

PhD (CS, EE)(3 years)

  • 18 Years Education in the relevant discipline with minimum CGPA 3.0/4.0 or 60% marks.
  • NTS-GAT (Subject Test), or GRE (Subject Test) passed with minimum 60% marks or BU Admission Test with 70% Marks.
  • A statement of purpose of 2000 words shall also be submitted by the PhD candidate.

PhD Software Engineering

  • 18 Years of education (MS/MPhil/equivalent) in the relevant discipline from an HEC recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.00/4.00 (Semester System) or 60% marks (Annual System). HEC’s Equivalence Certificate is mandatory for the candidates with foreign degree.
  • NTS-GAT (Subject Test) with 60% marks or GRE (Subject Test) with minimum 60% percentile score in the relevant computing domain (Computer Science/Software Engineering/IT) OR University Based Test conducted for Software Engineering with Minimum 70% marks. Result has to be submitted at the time of admission.
  • Applicants must submit HEC attested/verified copies of academic degrees/transcripts/certificates.
  • A statement of purpose of 2000 words shall also be submitted by the PhD candidate.

PhD Computer Engineering

  • 18 year of education (MS/MPHIL/equivalent degree) in relevant discipline form an HEC recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.00/4.00 (semester system) or 60% marks (annual system).HEC’s Attestation is required for all local degrees (on the back of original degree. HEC’s equivalent certificate would be required for the candidate with foreign degree.
  • NTS-GAT (Subject Test), or GRE (Subject Test) passed with minimum 60% marks or BU Admission Test with 70% Marks.
  • A statement of purpose of 2000 words shall also be submitted by the PhD candidate.

PhD (Mathematics)

  • 18 year of education (MS/MPhil/equivalent degree) in Mathematics from an HEC recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.00/4.00 (semester system) or 60% marks (annual system).
  • GAT (Mathematics)/GRE (Mathematics) with minimum 60% marks, or University Based Test passed with minimum 70% marks.
  • A statement of purpose of 2000 words shall also be submitted by the PhD candidate.

EARTH & ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES

PhD Geology

  • 18 years of education in the relevant field.
  • 3.00/400 CGPA in MS program with Subject GAT/University Test Prior to admission

PhD Environmental Sciences

  • The application form duly filled and supported with relevant documents including attested copies of degrees/certificates should be submitted to the university admission office.
  • Applicants should have MS (a minimum education of 18 or 17.5 years) in environmental sciences or any other related field.
  • A minimum CGPA of 3.0 in the semester system or 60% marks in the annual system is mandatory.
  • Certificate of GAT subject or Departmental Test with minimum score of 70%.
  • The research proposal (5 to 6 pages) is the key component for the admission which should refer to a specific area (or areas) of the research interest.

PhD Geophysics

  • 18 years of education. MS/MPhil degree in Geophysics
  • HEC recognized MS/MPhil degree in Geophysics with 3.00/400 CGPA (Semester System) or 60% marks (Annual System) with Subject GAT/University Test Prior to admission.

HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

PhD International Relations

A PhD candidate must have completed 18 years of education in any of the following subjects with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 (semester system) or 60% (First Division) in annual system. The subjects include:

  1. International Relations
  2. Political Science
  3. Defense and Strategic Studies
  4. Defense and Diplomatic Studies
  5. Peace and Conflict Studies
  6. Government and Public policy
  7. Area Studies
  8. Development Studies
  9. Political History
  10. Media Studies
  11. Pakistan Studies
  12. NTS-GAT (Subject Test), or GRE (Subject Test) passed with minimum 60% marks or BU Admission Test with 70% Marks.
  13. A sound and comprehensive but tentative research proposal must be submitted along with the admission form.
  14. PhD candidate will appear before Departmental PhD Committee for interview. Decision of PhD Committee regarding scholar’s admission shall be final.

PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGY

PhD Clinical Psychology (2 years /3 years)

  • Minimum 18 years of education in Clinical Psychology or relevant field of Psychology including clinical internship and course contents
  •  Minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 (semester system) or 60% (First Division) in annual system.
  • NTS-GAT (Subject Test), or GRE (Subject Test) passed with minimum 60% marks or BU Admission Test with 70% Marks.
  • A statement of purpose of 2000 words shall also be submitted by the PhD candidate.

PhD Organizational Psychology

  • Minimum 18 years of education in relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks (in annual system) or CGPA 3.0/4.0 (in semester system).
  • NTS-GAT (Subject Test), or GRE (Subject Test) passed with minimum 60% marks or BU Admission Test with 70% Marks.
  • A statement of purpose of 2000 words shall also be submitted by the PhD candidate.

MEDIA STUDIES

PhD Media Studies

  • 18 year of education (MS/MPhil/equivalent degree) in relevant discipline from an HEC recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.00/4.00 (semester system) or 60% marks (Only where CGPA is not given/available).
  • NTS-GAT (Subject Test), or GRE (subject test), passed with minimum 60% marks or BU Admission Test (70 marks passing marks).
  • HEC equivalency certificate for the candidates will be required.
  • HEC’s attestation on the candidate’s local degrees (on the back of the original degree).
  • A statement of purpose (Maximum 2,000 words) to be evaluated by the Admission Committee.

LAW

PhD Law

  • LLM degree from an HEC recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.0/4.0 (semester system) or 60% marks (annual system). HEC’s equivalency certificate is required for LLM degree from foreign university. NTS-GAT (Subject test) or GRE (Subject test) with minimum 60% marks or BU Computer based test with minimum 70% marks.
  • A statement of purpose of 2000 words shall also be submitted by the PhD candidate.
